Marija Vilaj graduated Molecular Biology at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology in 2014. From March 2015 to April 2015 she worked as a Regulatory assistant in PharmaSwiss d.o.o. in Zagreb and thus gained experience in the field of registration of drugs and medical products. In July 2015 she started to work as a young researcher at the RegPot IntegraLife project at the University of Zagreb where she analyzed large cohorts which included several hundred samples of patients who are suffering from various diseases, such as diabetes or autoimmune diseases and healthy individuals who were used as controls. She also analyzed changes in glycosylation pattern with age and studied whether glycans affect the lifespan of an individual. Since October 2016, she works as a researcher at Genos Glycoscience Laboratory where she continues to explore the field of glycobiology primarly by analyzing IgG and plasma glycome in various population studies with UPLC.
